Organic Certification

Organic certification system is a quality assurance initiative, intended to assure quality, prevent fraud and promote commerce, based on set of standards and ethics. The certification requirements vary from country to country and generally involve a set of production standards for growing, storage, processing, packaging and shipping that include:

  • Avoidance of synthetic chemical inputs (e.g. fertilizer, pesticides, antibiotics, food additives), irradiation, and the use of sewage sludge
  • Avoidance of genetically modified seed
  • Use of farmland that has been free from prohibited chemical inputs for a number of years (often, three or more)
  • For livestock, adhering to specific requirements for feed, housing, and breeding
  • Keeping detailed written production and sales records (audit trail)
  • Maintaining strict physical separation of organic products from non-certified products
  • Undergoing periodic on-site inspections

Organic Standards

These are the rules and regulations that define how an organic product must be made. Anything labelled 'organic' that is for human consumption must meet these standards as a minimum. The standards cover all aspects of food production, for example, animal welfare and wildlife conservation, and banning unnecessary and harmful food additives in organic processed foods. It relates to regulations and minimum requirements, not ❛best practice❜. It can be International, National or regional standards.


Authoritative body defines policies, standards and checks whether a certification system is operating according to standards.Various accreditation programs: national, EU (EN 45011), ISO (No. 65), IFOAM, NPOP, NOP, JAS.

Inspection and Certification

Accreditation of Inspection and certification agency is done by NAB. It includes deployment of competent persons for audit, undertaking inspection and certification, annual surveillance and review of inspection and certification agencies, continuous improvement in system and renewal of accreditation at 3 year interval.

Internal Control System(ICS)

A group of producers create internal team for some tasks • External certification agency delegates some inspection tasks to this group (known as ICS) • ICS undertakes inspection on behalf of CB • Certification agency evaluates the working of ICS and do random field inspection for verification • Certification is granted to group as a whole as one unit.

EcoCert Certification

It is an internationally recognized certification organization and carries out inspections and issues certification. EcoCert is an inspection and certification body for organic, fair trade and good agricultural practices. It is established in France in 1991 by agronomists aware of the need to develop environmentally friendly agriculture. In India, EcoCert operates from its offices at Aurangabad (M.S.) and Gurgaon (Haryana). EcoCert contributed to the expansion of organic farming by persistently introducing much affordable schemes of certification for small and marginal farmers.

EcoCert has become a benchmark in organic certification worldwide. Our Accreditation No. issued by EcoCert is ORG/SC/1802/000277.

India Organic

India Organic is a certification mark for organically farmed food products manufactured in India. The certification mark certifies that an organic food product conforms to the National Standards for Organic Products.
